Kansas City Zoo, presented by Randy Wisthoff, Executive Director / CEO
Randy Wisthoff is the Executive Director/CEO of the Kansas City Zoo. Randy’s leadership of the Kansas City Zoo has brought about remarkable changes during his 17-year tenure. Working in the Zoo industry for the past 41 years, Randy began his career at the Henry Doorly Zoo where he was an animal keeper before working his way into Zoo management.
Shortly after his arrival at the Kansas City Zoo, Randy worked with board members and city leaders to spearhead a $30 million bond package which brought a wave of improvements to the Zoo including a polar bear exhibit. Randy and the Friends of the Zoo Board directed a campaign in 2011 that resulted in the creation of a Zoological District in Jackson and Clay Counties in Missouri. This 1/8 cent sales tax provides the Zoo a steady funding stream to continue to provide outstanding services and has helped to build improvements like Helzberg Penguin Plaza, Orangutan Canopy, Stingray Bay, and most recently, Elephant Expedition, which opened this past May.
Under his leadership, the Zoo has experienced record attendance, including welcoming more than 1 million visitors in 2016, and grown its membership base to more than 30,000 households.
Metropolitan Community College - Blue River is the luncheon sponsor.
